The Components of a Rapier Loom
Listed below are the general components of a rapier loom. Shedding mechanism: it separates the warp threads up and down to form the shed for weft insertion. There are both upper and lower shed devices; the most common for rapier looms is the 221 control head, and cam shedding is also used — cam shedding is most common for plain weave. Weft insertion mechanism: introduces the weft yarn into the shed. Beating-up mechanism: pushes the inserted weft yarn to the cloth fell to form the fabric, accomplished through the rapier tape. Take-up mechanism: draws the finished fabric away from the forming area and winds it into a package. Let-off mechanism: supplies the warp according to the interweaving requirement and gives the warp a certain tension. Take-up and let-off differ between different machines.
